Discovery Program Training

The Discovery Program is a concrete, skill-based curriculum that has the power to create positive change in students. Through Discovery, students learn and master the positive social skills necessary to be successful in school and in life. While Discovery enhances the academic and personal accomplishments of all students, it works especially well for students considered at risk. The goal of the Discovery Program is to improve student achievement and teacher performance — and it works!

Discovery Program training provides teachers, counselors, and administrators specific, hands-on instruction and the skill models needed to successfully implement the Discovery Program in their classroom or school. Attendees learn through explicit activities and lessons related to each of the six units and skill sets, and receive a certificate of completion at the end of the training.

To satisfy training requests, the Discovery Institute developed two training options:

1. A four-day on-site training in your district.
2. An intensive four-day summer session in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Regional and On-Site Training

Four-day Regional and On-Site Training sessions bring a Discovery trainer to your district or region. Your whole team — teachers, counselors, principals, and support staff — trains together on your own campus, using your schedule and your school’s real situations. On-site training is the most practical option when a district wants to certify a full building staff at once and begin implementing Discovery the same semester.

Intensive Summer Training Session in Colorado

Each summer, educators from across the country travel to Fort Collins, Colorado for a four-day intensive that covers the entire Discovery Program — all six curriculum units, the daily activities, and the culture-building practices that make them work. Attendees practice every skill they will later teach, receive peer and instructor feedback, and leave with a thorough understanding of the program, a certificate of completion, and everything they need to implement Discovery at their own school.

The summer intensive is ideal for individual educators or small teams who want to bring Discovery back to their building — and it doubles as a working retreat with colleagues who share the same goal: making school a place where kids want to come.
